Warm Shadow by Fink tips its hat to the electronic origins of the band with its 4/4 kick drum. Thus, contemporising the folk sound before an electric guitar again shifts the focus; its incessant motion making for compelling listening. I designed a remix by enhancing the arrangement. Adding heavier yet deep base drums, subterranean basslines, tape strings and piano keys. Fin Greenall’s voice with its worn, has a soulful grain stretching the words, lingering on phrases and shaping well placed moans and hums, that completes the package.

The last piece of this puzzle was the element of strings that had to be added. So it happens that strings are one of my favorite sounds in any given musical piece. Therefore I couldn’t resist not adding in the final arrangement. It felt right, it felt complete. Since we ‘re here, you might want to have a look in a really great review for my remix here. But don’t take my word for it, listen and do tell me what you think.

Fink, aka Fin Greenall, is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and DJ, born in Cornwall and currently based in Brighton. Since the 2006 release of his album Biscuits for Breakfast, the name Fink has also referred to the recording and touring trio fronted by Greenall himself, completed by Guy Whittaker (bass) and Tim Thornton (drums).

Best known for the 2007 song “This is the Thing” and the 2011 album Perfect Darkness, Fink is signed to independent record label Ninja Tune Records. Greenall’s skills as a songwriter has created a demand for his talents among fellow artists. Most recently he has written in collaboration with John LegendXimena Sarinana and Professor Green.

With Amy Winehouse he co-wrote the song “Half Time“, which appears on Winehouse’s posthumous collection Lioness: Hidden Treasures.
