Warm Shadow by Fink tips its hat to the electronic origins of the band with its 4/4 kick drum. Thus, contemporising the folk sound before an electric guitar again shifts the focus; its incessant motion making for compelling listening. Paul Gilmore designed a remix by enhancing the arrangement. Adding heavier yet deep base drums, subterranean basslines, tape strings and piano keys. Fin Greenall’s voice with its worn, has a soulful grain stretching the words, lingering on phrases and shaping well placed moans and hums, that completes the package.
The last piece of this puzzle was the element of strings that had to be added. So it happens that strings are one of my favorite sounds in any given musical piece. Therefore I couldn’t resist not adding in the final arrangement. It felt right, it felt complete. Since we ‘re here, you might want to have a look in a really great review for my remix here. But don’t take my word for it, listen and do tell me what you think.
